A modern Group with tradition
For more than 150 years, the companies of the Salzgitter Group have been synonymous with the innovative and sustainable manufacture of steel and technology products. What started with the idea of making iron and steel from ore sourced in Lower Saxony has evolved into a international group that includes world-renowned brands such as Peiner Träger, Mannesmann or KHS. Today, around 25,000 people work to provide customers from a range of sectors with innovative and sustainable products of the highest quality. Our core competencies are in the production of rolled steel and tube products, as well as their processing and the global trade in these goods. In addition, we are also successful in the field of specialist machinery and plant Engineering.
SALZGITTER AG IS COMPETENT
Under the leadership of Salzgitter AG as the holding company, the Group’s structure is divided into five divisions.
The divisions comprise the operating companies which independently develop market, customer and product-related business activities and operate with a high degree of decision-making autonomy.

In addition, it has industrial holdings, including the leading European copper producer Aurubis, as well as numerous service companies that are not assigned to any business segment.
SALZGITTER AG IS INDEPENDENT
Independence is the cornerstone of our group policy. This is the basis for our strategic initiatives with a long-term horizon. We do not see ourselves as a world champion in announcing speculative measures to increase the share price in the short term, as we believe that these are not suitable for increasing the value of our company in the long term. We are looking for sustainable growth potential and, with the acquisitions of Mannesmannröhren-Werke AG and Klöckner-Werke AG and the successful ‘Salzgitter AG 2015’ optimisation programme, we have already demonstrated the superior benefits of a long-term corporate strategy on several occasions.
For us, this also includes a down-to-earth financial policy. A solid balance sheet and capital structure is important to us in order to have sufficient financial manoeuvrability to successfully pursue opportunities as they arise, regardless of capital market sentiment. We consider this to be an indispensable prerequisite for realising a sustainable increase in value for our shareholders.
SALZGITTER AG IS SUSTAINING
The prudent utilization of resources is an essential prerequisite for the economic success of our Group, not least from a financial point of view. For example, the byproduct gases from the steel production in the Salzgitter iron and steel works are used in the company’s own power plant to generate electricity and process steam. Our modern steels also play a decisive role in lightweight engineering in many industries, while our special machinery producers are also constantly working to optimize the resource consumption of their products.
According to our understanding, however, sustainability extends far and beyond merely minimizing the input of raw materials: Demographic developments are making it essential to react in good time with suitable measures to the changing age structure of the workforce. The Salzgitter Group therefore not only relies on focused training and professional development programs for young employees, but also on the specific promotion of health among the workforce. We believe that our attractiveness as an employer is an important factor in the overall competitiveness of the Group.
Technology
The business division’s range of services primarily includes machines for filling and packaging beverages. The Technology Division comprises three long-established manufacturers of specialty machines that occupy outstanding positions in their respective markets. The products of these companies embody our core values of innovation, quality and sustainability.
Trade
A large proportion of global demand for steel is accounted for by small and medium-sized customers who are unable to process minimum order quantities for direct sales from the steelworks. These companies use the steel trade for their procurement. In order to be in direct contact with the majority of its end customers, it makes sense to operate its own activities.
STEALING
The Strip Steel Business Unit produces, processes and sells strip steel in a wide range of metallurgical analyses and dimensions.
STEEL PROCESSING
The Steel Processing Division comprises the steel tube producing companies and the companies with heavy plate activities of the Salzgitter Group.

Current information is thus disseminated internationally within a very short time. We have maintained intensive contact and exchange of experience for many years.

For us, customer orientation and customer benefit already start with the suppliers. Therefore DESMA expects from its suppliers what it wants to offer to its customers: competence, quality, reliability, a balanced price/performance ratio and flexibility.
INSTITUTIONS AND ASSOCIATIONS
Membership of and support for associations and institutions ensure the exchange of knowledge within our industry and provide a forum for the standardization of new applications by defining interfaces. In addition, public events and trade fairs are organized via professional associations, which represent important platforms for the presentation of new developments and stand for the exchange of experience within our industry.
