The main character of the carnival in Fridingen is the lone jester – Fridinger Fox – whose hat is made of hand-woven linen fabric and decorated with colorful cookies. The cookies are all made by hand. They are often sewn two, three or four times on top of each other. The back of the smock is usually decorated with a family symbol. As a rule, the year in which the costume was made is sewn onto the coat.
The wooden mask, called a larva in Fridingen, is very sculpted and painted flesh-colored. It depicts a smiling man’s face with a moustache. The whole thing is adorned with a fox tail, which is attached to the coat above the larva.
