SMARTCONNECT4.U HONORED AS A LIGHTHOUSE PROJECT
The company Klöckner DESMA Elastomertechnik GmbH was honored by the Federal State of Baden Württemberg for their innovative machine range SmartConnect4.U.
Within the scope of the competition „100 Places for Industry 4.0 in Baden-Württemberg“ of the Alliance for Industry 4.0, the state government presented an award to the Fridingen mechanical engineering company for being an enterprise which has implemented digitization solutions in their workflow routines particularly successfully. For their location, the winners received a Certificate of Honor and a glass trophy and are presented on the website „Alliance for Industry 4.0 Baden-Württemberg". In addition to DESMA, 27 other institutions and companies were honored.
When choosing the winners, special focus is set on the practical significance of these technologies. The committee of experts is also looking for products or projects with a high degree of innovation. And according to them, both have been implemented with SmartConnect4.U.
The program to network data sources and analysis results intelligently enables new products, service and business models to be developed in order to shape the workflows much more efficiently. Thus production quality can be increased. The system has already been geared to future developments, too. The networked collaboration between humans, machines, robots and computers is increasingly simplified by SmartConnect4.U.
„Industry, medium-sized businesses and start-ups in Baden-Württemberg are on the right track into the digitized future – as the projects awarded today impressively show. This award ceremony is to make tangible and added value creating solutions from the country better known and to motivate particularly small and medium-sized companies to actively tackle the real opportunities offered by Industry 4.0, said Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, the Secretary for Commerce and Employment of Baden-Württemberg during the award presentation at the Old Castle in Stuttgart.

Dear business partners, valued customers, our dear friends,
With 2017, a year is now coming to an end that has involved nice economic success for most of us.
If things go as expected for these last weeks, we can clearly exceed the 100-million-Euro limit for the first time.
Thanks to the trust you and our suppliers, institutes, shareholders and of course our strong team have placed in us, we have been able to double our company size over the last 10 years. We say thank you to all of you who have contributed to it.
The year-end finish will bring us a good corporate result. However, time has also come to think about the events behind and ahead of us: The work we have done, the team and its accomplishments, but also about the things not yet achieved - and of course about your own family and friends.
The result of these thoughts could be realizing that there were things that could not be influenced by personal action and work. Time and again we have to bear conditions, even if we do not accept them. There have been plenty of such memorable moments this year. Things believed constant have not only been questioned but very often have really changed. That is reason enough for us to become aware of what we possess with our economy and democracy e. g. here in Germany and the must to treat it as a great good continuously to be preserved. It is all about protecting success and the freedom of shaping.
Undoubtedly we are facing tremendous upheavals of old familiar habits: Let us just think of the megatrend neologisms, disruption and digital transformation. Peter Drucker, the world-famous economist and founder of modern corporate governance, was well quoted in connection with the topic of surprises in the latest issue of the German business magazine ‚brand eins‘:
„Most people believe that we have gone through extreme changes over the past few years“, he noticed in 2001 already, almost 17 years ago. But according to him this is an illusion, just because the past decades have been so stable. But now „we have reached the point where the change is fully noticeable“.
At the same time, it says: „If you want to deal with surprises, you have to do something and become a surprise maker yourself.“
Once we review this year for ourselves, we have obviously proceeded in the aforementioned spirit together with you. We have implemented amazing projects with you. We were able to surprise our guests and ourselves with a fantastic Open House. – Let us recall the presentation of our FutureLab, the cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation, the robot technology, our digital expert network, the SmartCommunity, the electric motor operated eDrive cold runner system and our trend-based machine visualization, the DRC 2030 TBM.
The February-commencing „hostile takeover“ of our key personnel in China by one of our European competitors was anything but a „customary approach“ as per European standards!
With our new management team and the knowledge gained in the meantime, we are sure as matters stand now that the right people have left us at the right time. We will close this year with a production record and an all-time high order backlog in China, too! We would like to sincerely thank our customers who unconditionally relied on us even in this initially very challenging situation.
Our sustainable, measurable success is based on the cooperation with you and the sum of many individual achievements at our 5 locations and 35 sales and service satellites. Since pictures express more than a 1000 words, we may ask you after reading this 2017 review to have a look at the enclosed picture gallery of our Open House and, if not already done, at our company magazine Records 2017.
Just as elastic and dimensionally stable as our good material rubber is, we look with you at 2018 in a future-oriented and confident manner and it is our strong belief that together we will cope with any kind of disruption, digital transformation or other changes. Shaping this change jointly – this is exactly what we are looking for!
In this spirit, we wish you and your beloved ones a wonderful Christmas time, a relaxing holiday season and health, happiness and success for 2018!
