Jens Hipp teams up with Olaf Küchler in the training center
|
Those who were keen on learning the latest tips and tricks from process technology in the past had to be pretty patient. Waiting periods up to six months were rather the rule than the exception, as the DESMA training center is noted in the industry for providing superior education.
"There are only few offers in the special field of rubber injection moulding - universities and engineering colleges usually focus on thermoplastics and our competitors do not at all come up with such a thing", says Olaf Küchler, Head of Training
DESMA offers around 40 courses a year with an average of six attendees, the half of it in the DESMA-owned training center in Fridingen, the others on the ground at big customers. The issue is much more than the proper operation or maintenance of new or recently upgraded DESMA machines. Cycle optimization, troubleshooting, preparation of the ideal compound, the perfect adjustment of the individual parameters are normally the subjects with which the normally 3-day courses are dealing in a theoretical and in a hands-on part.
"We demonstrate how to bring out the best in our machines, to use them in an optimal way", explains Küchler. Big as the interest in applied process technology is, so motley is the group of attendees the range of which goes from trainees to engineering professors, from managing directors to shift supervisors. To reduce the waiting list and to cope with the increased demand, a second full-time instructor - Mr. Jens Hipp - was trained for the training center. Like Mr. Küchler, Mr. Jens Hipp has been working for years as application technician in the DESMA process engineering center and thus provides extensive experience in dealing with the machines and processes. Mr. Hipp underwent a 3-month training programme to become rhetorically and didactically fit for explaining even complex subjects in an intelligible manner. Since mid-March he has been on duty and the DESMA training center is now working at double speed for machines and plants from DESMA to produce not only properly but optimally thanks to well-trained customer staff.
