DESMA joins the Plastics Museum Society
|
Celluloid cans in 1890, Bakelite radios in the 30s, designer chairs in the 70s: plastics are definitely worth looking at. The Plastics Museum Society has a membership of around three hundred, comprising interested parties, companies and institutions active in the fields of research, industry and culture as well as associations and private persons: they all share an interest in the culture of plastics. DESMA became a member of the Plastics Museum Society (Kunststoff-Museums-Verein KMV) in 2009.
The German Plastics Museum is actually a mobile exhibition.
This has the advantage that the museum can set up its exhibits in any venue and location. This means the museum is able to showcase its exhibits to many more people, and to do so in places where people come together anyway. For example in a shopping mall, a cinema foyer, a bank or a town hall.
The homepage gives access to a virtual museum. Visitors to this site can inspect some of the 9,000 exhibits online. Videos are also available, illustrating the processes involved in the manufacture of plastics.
The Kunststoff-Museums-Verein is the proud owner of approximately 10,000 plastic exhibits, together forming one of the most comprehensive collections in Germany. The items are also showcased at international exhibitions and can be loaned by society members for their own exhibitions. To view the KMV collection, go to the virtual plastics museum or the database.
