What is the real significance of energy savings when it comes to sustainable economics? Blind actionism can make supposed savings measures very expensive.

FlowControl CRB There is absolutely no doubt that reducing resource consumption is important and correct. This is why experts are looking for potential ways of saving energy in energy-intensive processes in particular - such as injection molding. Nevertheless, what may make sense for thermoplastic injection molding, does not necessarily apply to elastomer processing. A much more effective way of reducing costs is implementing more efficient material usage: as demonstrated by DESMA on the basis of numerous examples.
A few interesting facts:

The drives in elastomer processing systems use around a third of the total energy consumed, whilst heating up the tools and tempering accounts for the other two thirds. Energy accounts on average for only around 4 per cent of the costs per article. The material proportion of articles is much higher: accounting for between 50 and 70 % of the costs. When processing uses the old hot runner tools, the amount of waste alone can account for between 10 to 70 % of the material consumption, depending on the product.

These figures themselves highlight the relationships very clearly. As a system supplier, DESMA always considers the whole production system as a matter of principle. This becomes very interesting because if cold runner technology is used, the savings which be achieved on materials can be several times higher than the possible energy savings alone. The following technical report shows two examples: the fully automatic production of O-rings from NRB, and the production of NR-rubber-metal bushes.
