New systems for efficient tool changes in small series.
|
Small batches often require frequent tool changes. Together with heating and cool-down times, tool changes can often take many hours. Hours in which the injection moulding machine is idle. The consequence are disproportionately high machine set up costs in the product cost calculation. For several years now, DESMA has offered a range of different tool change systems.
These comprise autonomous pre-heating stations for one or more tools. Even cold runners can be held at operating temperature in these pre-heating stations. Used in conjunction with one of DESMA's change carriages or hydraulic/mechanical fast clamping systems, the tool changing times can be reduced to less than 15 minutes from shot to shot.
Pre-heating stations are equipped with an autonomous controller. This allows the entry of a heating time and exact temperature specifications. Another option is to connect an integrated mould heating unit. If a cold runner is to be pre-heated, suitable temperature control units with fast coupling systems are available. Tools are pre-heated using heating plates identical with those fitted in the machines. The upper heating plate of the pre-heating station is moved into position on the mould using a spindle drive.
In order to transport the tool from the change carriage into the mould frame in the injection moulding machine using the lowest forces possible, the machine hot plates are fitted with heavy load rollers. As an alternative, the hot plates can also be designed with air cushion plates. The change carriage is docked on the mould frame using consoles. To simplify the positioning process, a cross-stroke is also available. A further option is for the insertion of the mould from the change carriage into the mould frame to be executed by an integrated automated pusher. Pre-heating stations are available for a wide range of mould sizes. The systems are furthermore fully enclosed to keep energy losses to a minimum.
